Hotel reservations

Search live rates and book online in a minute, or call and we’ll do it with you. Two ways in, same rooms, same prices.

How it works

Every hotel sells the same room on several different rates, and they differ in when the money moves. The cheapest is usually prepaid: you are charged in full today and cannot get it back. Alongside it there is almost always a pay-at-the-property rate, where nothing is taken at all and you settle the whole bill at the front desk on arrival.

That second rate is the one this page is about. Search below, pick a room, and confirm it with a name, an email address and a phone number. No card number is entered, because there is nothing to charge. The reservation is real and held in your name from the moment you confirm it.

What “pay later” means — and what it doesn’t

The phrase covers two arrangements that have almost nothing in common, and search results mix them freely, so it is worth separating them before you pick one.

  • Financing.Affirm, Klarna, Zip, or a chain’s own instalment plan. The stay is paid for now by a lender and you repay them in instalments. There is usually a credit check, and you owe the money whether or not you travel.
  • Paying at the property. No lender, no instalments, no credit check. The hotel simply does not take money until you arrive. If you cancel within the terms, nothing was ever charged and there is nothing to unwind.

Callstay does neither. We are not a lender and we do not arrange credit, so if what you need is to spread the cost across four payments, this is not the right page.

To be straight about what we sell today:the rates our supplier returns are paid at the time of booking, not at the desk. We are working on pay-at-the-property inventory and this page will say so the day we have it. Until then, treat the section below as an explanation of the market rather than a description of our rates — we would rather lose the booking than have you arrive expecting to settle up at check-in.

Booking without a credit card

This is the reason most people arrive here, so here is the honest answer: a pay-at-the-property rate asks for no card because it takes no payment, and that is genuinely the straightforward route if you hold a debit card and no credit card, or would rather not have a $400 authorisation sitting against it for three weeks. We cannot offer you that rate today — our current rates take payment at booking, and a debit card works for them.

One thing to expect anyway: a great many hotels ask for a card at check-in for incidentals and place a hold on it, typically $50 to $150 a night. That is the property’s own policy and it has nothing to do with how you booked. A debit card usually works for it, though the hold does come out of your available balance rather than a credit line, which is worth knowing before you arrive.

When a prepaid rate is the better buy

We would rather say this than not. If your dates are fixed, you are certain you are going, and the trip is cheap enough that losing it would not hurt, the prepaid rate is usually meaningfully cheaper and you should take it. Pay-later is worth its premium when the plan might move — a job that might run long, a court date, a family situation, a crew whose start date is not yet confirmed.

What it costs to book through us

Nothing. You pay the property’s own rate, the same one you would get booking direct, and we are paid a commission by the property rather than a fee by you. There is no booking fee, no service charge and no membership.

Questions people actually ask

Can I book a hotel now and pay later?

Yes. Most hotels offer at least one rate that takes no payment when you reserve — you settle the whole bill at the front desk when you check in. Callstay filters for those rates, so the room is held in your name today and the money leaves your account at the property, not before.

Can I book a hotel without a credit card?

On a pay-at-the-property rate, yes. Those rates need a name, an email address and a phone number to hold the room, and nothing else. A debit card is fine at the desk. Be aware that many hotels still swipe a card on arrival for incidentals and place a hold on it — that hold is the property's policy, and it applies whether you booked through us, through a booking site, or at the desk.

Which hotels do not require a credit card?

It is set per rate rather than per hotel. The same property will often list a cheaper prepaid rate alongside a flexible one that asks for nothing up front, so the question is which rate you pick rather than which hotel. Independents and smaller chains tend to offer the flexible option more often than resorts and city-centre properties in peak season.

Is book now, pay later the same as financing?

No, and the difference matters. Financing — Affirm, Klarna, Zip, or a chain's own instalment plan — is a loan against the stay, usually with a credit check, and you owe the money whether or not you travel. Paying at the property is not borrowing: nothing is charged, nothing is financed, and no lender is involved. Callstay does the second and does not offer the first.

Is there a credit check?

No. Nothing on a pay-at-the-property booking involves a lender, so there is nothing to check and no effect on your credit file.

Does booking this way cost more?

Sometimes, and it is worth knowing why. A prepaid, non-refundable rate is usually the cheapest a hotel will go, because you have taken the risk of not turning up. A flexible pay-later rate costs a little more for exactly that reason. You are paying for the option to change your mind, and on an uncertain trip that option is generally worth more than the difference.

What happens if I don't turn up?

The property's own cancellation terms apply, and they vary — many pay-later rates cancel free up to the day before, while some allow a no-show fee. We show the terms on the room before you confirm rather than after, so a free cancellation is visibly free and a chargeable one is visibly chargeable.

Can I pay with a debit card?

Yes, at the property. Because a pay-at-the-property rate takes no payment when you reserve, whatever the front desk accepts is what you can use — debit, credit, and at many independents cash. That is the practical reason this route works for travellers who do not hold a credit card.
